La Roca ("The Rock") is the name of our community center in the neighborhood called Osorio. This center has been the result of the investment of lots of time and funds accompanied by the energy and enthusiasm of countless volunteers. The WildRose Foundation as well as the Canadian International Development Agency assisted with initial construction funds and subsequently we have collaborated with local art agencies, UNICEF, the government of Finland, the American Field Service (no longer American) and the American Peace Corps to provide programs to the youth in our community.
Located in the colonial town of Santa Rosa de Copán, this center has a picturesque setting and a crucial role to play. Although modelled loosely after the idea of the Boys & Girls clubs of North America (on whose boards have served some of the board members of 3CM), as a Christian organization our purpose is to draw people to Christ. Unlike traditional missions, however, we do not use a lot of words to do this. Rather, our focus is on providing functional assistance to people as described in the Bible in Isaiah 58 and Matthew 25 and putting the book of James into practice.
